A Unique Portrait

October 2013, painting ASA model Virgil Hayes, "Sometimes Santa".  He was an interesting and challenging subject. I had to laugh a little when the initial sketches of many of my fellow artists came out looking like Leonardo da Vinci.

"Sometimes Santa" finished & showing at Summit ArtSpace Gallery, through Jan 1, 2014. Kaliedoscope 2013 had 169 entries out of which 75 were juried into the exhibition by Wayne Gruver.

"This semi abstract piece is handsome. The drawing is sure and subtle. with variety of texture, line, edges. The color is harmonious and disciplined. There is movement, flickering light, moodiness, mystery, richness, restraint. The artist uses the medium skillfully, with sophisticated aesthetic choices."
